In September 2019, the leading Finnish technology and ICT companies participating in the Industrial Data Excellence program (InDEx) launched practical work towards global leadership in smart industry. The key role is to use data radically more efficiently, e.g. using artificial intelligence. InDEx is building an industrial data community and a common data platform in Finland.

The program includes Konecranes, Cargotec, Danfoss, Elekmerk, Fastems, HT Laser, Nokia, PrimaPower, Raute, SSAB and Tieto. The academic partners are Aalto University, the University of Tampere, the University of Turku, the University of Helsinki, the University of Jyväskylä, the University of Vaasa and VTT.

In addition to the participating companies, the development program is financed by Business Finland. In total, the investment is in the order of less than 10 M €. The program is led by DIMECC Oy and chaired by Juha Pankakoski, Konecranes Plc’s Chief Technology Officer.
